Happy 2018, folks!
While it’s true that the numbers we attach to days and weeks and years are arbitrary, I don’t mind the feeling of a clean slate. I actually look forward to Mondays because it signifies the beginning of a fresh work week. Similarly, I love New Year’s Day because it means reflecting on the past year, letting go of everything that drained my energy, and looking forward to more projects and possibilities.
It’s a brand new year and my goals are as ambitious as ever. Don’t get me wrong – 2017 was amazing! After two international internships and beginning the last year of my undergrad, I can safely say that it’s been a wild – yet productive – ride.
But last year was just practice.
This year, I’m launching my YouTube channel!
(Among other projects, of course)
Right now, you’re probably thinking one of two things:
1. “IT’S ABOUT TIME!”
And yes, for those of you who have been nagging me for literally YEARS about starting my YouTube channel, this isn’t some sort of sick joke. And, me being me, I’m gonna be super extra about it by creating a blog post to announce its inception.
Speaking of time, if you’re wondering how I’m going to balance being a full-time student, working multiple jobs, and doing all of this blogging stuff, I really don’t know what to tell you. I’m no longer making the “I just don’t have time” excuse anymore because my creative pursuits will always be important to me. More than anything, I create stuff on the internet because it keeps me sane. I came back to university this year feeling lonelier than ever. I feel distant from my old friends and the fashion industry which I love. This project would help me feel more connected with the world, for the sake of my mental health.
I know I’ve previously discussed the possibility of creating video content, but to be honest, I didn’t feel ready. I still don’t. I’ve spent so much time learning about social media algorithms, video editing, filming, and blogging in general, but I haven’t put any of that into practice. But after being thrown into the chaos that is Mumbai, I’ve learned that you can never be fully ready for creative pursuits, anyways. Might as well take the leap!
… OR …
2. “Oh God, do we really need another YouTuber?”
To which my answer to you is …
In light of Logan Paul’s disgusting video depicting a man who completed suicide, YouTubers these days are getting a bad rap. I mean, given the amount of unnecessary contouring and swapping perfectly acceptable beauty tools for obscene objects (like ballsacks, for instance). And don’t get me started on the amount of racists who have been exposed on the video platform.
At the end of the day though, there is always room for another creator with a different point of view. Views on videos aren’t limited!
I actually created my YouTube channel because I’m doing an awful job at documenting my travel experiences. While my love for makeup and fashion will be evident in the videos, at this point I don’t think that tutorials and OOTD’s will be my main focus. I simply want to be able to relive my numerous once-in-a-lifetime experiences over and over again. I want to remember what I saw, what I learned, how I felt, and people I had the pleasure of meeting.
And I want to share them with you!
Having said that, I don’t want to limit my content to only those specific categories. It’ll be filled with whatever I feel like and whatever I think will be fun. 🙂
I’ll also be sharing my latest beauty discoveries, cool tech stuff, advice on your biggest fashion woes, and life in general through vlogs.
At the end of the day, I have nothing to lose. And so much to learn.
Make sure to subscribe to my channel! 🙂 Here’s the link. My channel trailer is already up!
