What better way to spend a national holiday than to shop till you drop?
This Republic Day, I made my way to the the Label Bazaar, a fashion exhibition featuring India’s coveted designer brands. The collection is curated by Anam Mirza, celebrity stylist and sister of Sania Mirza. The event was hosted by Roposo, the fashion social network; Neeru’s, the Indian ethnic wear label; Uber, the transportation service; MissMalini.com, the Bollywood gossip blog, and Fever 104 FM, one of the leading radio stations in the country.
While tons of brands and designers were being featured at Tote on the Turf in Worli, there were definitely a handful that made me do a double take. I figured I would share some of my favourites here. Take a look!
I was instantly attracted to this particular brand because of the name itself. The word “Masaya” in Tagalog (Filipino) literally translates to “Happy”. The representative, Nirali, was such a sweetheart and shared her experiences in the Philippines with me and how my mother country inspired the line of accessories. I’m sure other fashion enthusiasts can agree with me when I say that clothes and accessories are so much more fun to wear when you can relate to the meaning behind them!
The Bag Tales is a contemporary accessory label offering a range of slings, purses, and clutches to complete your outfit – whether you’ve opted for a sleek or quirky look that day!
Kukoon is a fashion label inspired by Japanese Samurai culture. The pieces are easy to wear, yet refined, so you can achieve an effortless, modern, and luxurious look each and every day. Founder Sneha Mehta takes inspiration from her travels to create each garment – how wonderful!
Zeb is a hand-crafted jewellery collection created with natural gemstones. Thank goodness these unique, statement pieces are lead and nickle free, because unless you’re Beyonce or Deepika Padukone, it’s impossible to look cute while your allergies are acting up!
If you’ve followed this blog since my Semester at Sea days, you would know that I really am a mermaid trapped in a human body (or maybe evolution decided to skip over me on the tail portion, who knows). My bright turquoise hair was my identifier on the World Odyssey. So you can only imagine how I felt when these under-the-sea inspired over-the-top clutches caught my eye!
Bombay Perfumery offers a premium selection of unisex fragrances for daily and special occasion wear. This Mumbai-based brand is sure to evoke a distinct memory with each of its scents: Madurai Talkies, Les Caves, Sulawesi, 1020, Seven Islands, Chai Musk, Calicut, and Moire. My personal fave? Chai Musk, of course! The smell of chai always brings me back to my first few days in Mumbai, when I sipped on my first cup of authentic chai.
What do you get when you cross Western wear with ethnic wear? Masala Chai Dubai, of course! This fusion label is sure to make jaws drop with its blend of intricate embroidery and modern silhouettes.
Hope you enjoyed the photos and brace yourself for tons more fashion related content on the blog!
